Catch-all email verification does not produce a simple valid-or-invalid answer. A catch-all domain may accept messages for every address during an SMTP check, even when a specific mailbox does not exist. That makes the result uncertain rather than automatically safe or invalid.
A practical decision requires more than a verification label. Combine technical checks with source quality, consent or legitimate interest, engagement context, and the consequences of a bounce or complaint.
Why catch-all domains create uncertainty
A catch-all domain, sometimes called an accept-all domain, is configured to receive mail addressed to names that the sending server cannot confirm individually. During verification, its mail server may accept the attempted recipient address without revealing whether that mailbox belongs to a real person.
Organizations use catch-all configurations for legitimate reasons, including capturing misspellings, routing messages centrally, protecting directory information, or filtering mail after acceptance. Some servers also behave like catch-alls temporarily because of security controls, rate limits, or inconclusive SMTP responses.
For that reason, a catch-all result should not be treated as proof that an address is deliverable. It also should not be treated as proof that it will bounce. Start with verification, but keep the result granular
